February in practice
February is still quiet, but the extra daylight makes a village or vineyard stop easier to fit into the day. There are few major events, so cellar visits and tastings set the pace.
Valentine’s weekends create local demand, so reserve restaurants and distinctive hotels. Outside those dates, availability is usually better, although cellar schedules still need checking.
Build around indoor quality
A serious tasting workshop, one underground tour and a museum create a complete day without depending on the weather. Choose experiences that differ: production, sensory tasting and regional history.
The cellar temperature can feel colder after an outdoor walk. Bring a proper layer and shoes suitable for steps and uneven surfaces.
Reims or Épernay?
Choose Reims for architecture, restaurant choice and easy arrival from Paris. Choose Épernay for Avenue de Champagne and quick access to Aÿ, Hautvillers and the Côte des Blancs.
With two nights, use the train between the cities rather than changing hotels. Add a guided vineyard circuit from whichever city offers the best departure.
What to confirm before leaving
Check the operator’s own calendar, the language of the tour, the number of tastings and whether transport is included. “Champagne tour” can mean anything from a ninety-minute cellar visit to a full regional day.
Also confirm Sunday and Monday restaurant openings; these days can be quieter than visitors expect.
