Historic streets and warm lights in the Champagne region

Stay guide

Where to stay in Champagne in winter

The best base depends less on scenery than on transport, dinner options and the visits you have actually booked.

Reims: the practical first choice

Choose Reims for fast trains, restaurant choice, cultural visits and major Champagne houses within the city. It is the most forgiving base when winter weather changes the plan.

Stay near the centre or station for a car-free trip. The Saint-Nicaise cellar district is quieter and atmospheric but less convenient for every evening.

Épernay: Champagne at the door

Épernay is smaller and more focused. Avenue de Champagne, Château Perrier and several tasting rooms are walkable, while guided tours reach the villages.

The city becomes very busy for Habits de Lumière. Reserve early for 11–13 December 2026 and confirm parking or station distance.

Villages and rural stays

A vineyard guesthouse gives quiet, views and proximity to growers. In winter, confirm dinner options, check-in times and taxi availability before booking.

This choice works best with a car or arranged driver. It is less suitable for a short trip built around evening dining and multiple tastings.

Troyes and the Côte des Bar

Troyes offers medieval streets, museums, stained glass and shopping, with the Côte des Bar to the south-east. It deserves its own itinerary rather than being treated as a quick extension of Reims.

Choose it for a broader cultural weekend or when producers in the Côte des Bar are the main purpose.
